Ms. Silvestry is my daughter’s Pre-K teacher at PS 9 in Prospect Heights. She is warm, encouraging, consistent and extremely communicative with parents. As a working parent, I am especially thankful for the weekly emails Ms. Silvestry sends on Sunday evenings about what the class will do in the coming week, including helpful reminders about what to send to school. She also consistently sends pictures of class outings, taking special care to get good pictures of each child – it keeps me feeling really connected to what’s happening day-to-day.
Ms. Silvestry also sets high standards and takes individual assessment of her students very seriously. At my first Parent/Teacher conference, she demonstrated her individualized knowledge of what my daughter needs to work on – in this case something that was outside the scope of her assessment form. She let me know specifically what she was doing in the classroom to help my daughter, which in turn gave me ideas for addressing it outside of school.
She has reinforced my daughter’s love of learning and excitement about going to school. That is truly something we are thankful for.
