Where do I begin to say "Thanks" to Mr. Kurt Waldman? He was my Algebra teacher from 1971-1972 at Bleeker JHS in Flushing NY. In addition, he was the assistant principal of the ninth grade. Every day, Mr. Waldman greeted us at the classroom door by name with a smile. It was relaxing to see him waiting for us and it made the learning easier because of a teacher who cared. Our entire class passed the Regents and the lowest grade was 85. When my son started school, I found out Mr. Waldman was the principal of PS 24 so I sent him a letter telling him how disappointed I was that he was not in the classroom any more. He called me and we laughed about it. Later when I returned to college to complete my degree I was placed in Remedial Algebra because so many years passed since I was in class. It did not matter that I had an 89 on the Regents. So I took the class and was one of the few to pass. Once the teacher started a new topic, it came back to me, thanks to Mr. Waldman. I eventually went on to take Research Methods and Statistics and got an A. My confidence in higher level math came shining through. I graduated from Nyack College in May 2007 with a 3.94 GPA because of the confidence of one teacher who believed I could do it.
Let Mr. Waldman know-THANKS FOR A JOB WELL DONE.
