Teachers of Tomorrow

New Teachers

In addition to competitive starting salaries, the NYC Department of Education provides additional financial incentives for new teachers to work in our highest-need schools.  The Teachers of Tomorrow Program is an opportunity for a newly hired certified teacher to earn an additional tax-free grant of $3,400 for each year of satisfactory service up to four years for a total of up to $13,600.

We strongly encourage all eligible candidates to consider working in these highest-need schools where your talents can make the greatest difference to our students
.

If you are hired into an eligible school, you will be notified directly in the late fall about the process for applying for the Teachers of Tomorrow grant.  Please note that grants will be paid out in the summer of 2009.  You will be eligible to receive the grant for up to four years as long as you remain in an eligible school.

Participants in other DOE financial support programs, including alternative certification and scholarship, are not eligible for Teachers of Tomorrow grant awards.  However, Housing Support Program recipients are automatically eligible for the additional Teachers of Tomorrow award.

Current Teachers

Depending on the availability of funds, currently employed teachers may also qualify for the Teachers of Tomorrow program if they are working in a high-need school.  You may be eligible for tuition reimbursement (if you are currently working towards your first master's degree) or loan forgiveness (if you have already completed your master's degree).
