Teachers of Tomorrow
Recruitment Incentives for New Teachers (TOT1)
In addition to competitive starting salaries, the NYC Department of Education provides additional financial incentives for new teachers to work in our highest-need schools. The Teachers of Tomorrow Recruitment Incentive program is an opportunity for certified teachers who are newly hired to the DOE to earn an additional tax-free grant of $3,400 for each year of satisfactory service up to four years for a total of up to $13,600.

We strongly encourage all eligible candidates to consider working in these highest-need schools where your talents can make the greatest difference to our students.
If you are hired into an eligible school, you will be notified directly in the late fall/winter about the process for applying for the Teachers of Tomorrow Recruitment Incentive. Please note that grants will be paid out in the summer of 2010. You will be eligible to receive the grant for up to four years as long as you remain in an eligible school.
Participants in other DOE programs that provide financial assistance in obtaining certification including the scholarship program and some alternative certification and teacher residency programs are not eligible to participate in the Teachers of Tomorrow Recruitment Incentive program. However, Housing Support Program participants are eligible to apply for the Teachers of Tomorrow Recruitment Incentive.

Tuition Reimbursement for Current Teachers (TOT2)
Depending on the availability of funds after TOT1 grants are paid out each year, currently employed teachers may also qualify for the Teachers of Tomorrow Tuition Reimbursement program if they are working in a TOT-eligible school, have not yet obtained permanent or professional certification and are currently working towards their first master's degree.
