Paraprofessionals
Paraprofessionals are teaching assistants who provide instructional services to students under the general supervision of a certified teacher.  In NYC, most paraprofessionals work in special education and early childhood education settings.  Prior to being eligible for full-time employment, educational paraprofessionals are required to work as day-to-day substitute paraprofessionals in a special education classroom assignment.

There are many opportunities available for candidates wishing to explore the position of paraprofessional and, in turn, many paraprofessionals choose to obtain certification to become teachers themselves.
