If you are interested in serving in the NYC public schools as a school attendance teacher, school guidance counselor, school social worker, or a school psychologist, you must possess or have completed all requirements and be eligible for a NY State Pupil Personnel Services certificate. 

Please note that without this certification, you cannot be considered for these positions
.  Out-of-state candidates may also be considered for these positions, but they must fall within the guidelines for interstate reciprocity as defined on the NY State website.  Candidates from outside the country are not eligible to be considered for these positions.

Bilingual Pupil Personnel Services

Certified bilingual school psychologists, bilingual school counselors, and bilingual school social workers are asked to complete an online application.  Upon verification, you will be referred for an interview based on the availability of positions.

Application Procedures

Please complete an online application.  The information on your application must be complete and accurate.  For guidance counselors, social workers, and attendance teachers, applications will be reviewed and verified.  The Office of Teacher Recruitment does not hold interviews for these positions.  Candidates who are deemed eligible for these positions will be placed on a list of available candidates and may be interviewed by principals based on the availability of positions.

All selections for these positions take place at the school level and you may apply directly to schools in which you have interest, regardless if a vacancy exists or not.  Please note that positions in these areas are extremely limited as there are far more candidates available than there are positions.  Please do not call the Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality for follow up on these positions.

School Psychologists

Applications will be reviewed and verified and candidates who meet eligibility requirements will be placed on a list of available candidates for review by the chairpersons of the Committee on Special Education.  Interviews will be scheduled for these positions as vacancies occur.

School Secretary and School Laboratory Specialist

Scholarship Programs for Bilingual Candidates

Scholarships for candidates who are uncertified but fluent in English and a second language of need are offered in the following areas:
