Speech Improvement
Teachers of Speech Improvement provide Speech and Language Therapy to those students (all grades) with communication disorders who are mandated to receive such services as designated on the student’s Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). Teachers of Speech Improvement also provide at-risk support to non-mandated students and share their expertise with staff and parents at their assigned schools. As of February 2004, the teaching certificate required for Teachers of Speech Improvement is the Teacher of Speech Language Disabilities (All Grades) certificate.

Speech and Language Pathology
Even though there may not be posted vacancies in schools where needs exist, the New York City Department of Education has full-time positions for Bilingual and Monolingual School Language Pathologists and/or Audiologists. These positions offer competitive pay, excellent benefits, extensive professional development, and opportunities to work with culturally-rich and diverse student populations across the five boroughs. We continually have an ongoing need for these positions and classes are created on a daily basis, as these needs develop.
Interested applicants should forward, via e-mail, a letter of interest and resumé to Sandra Rogers, Deputy Director, at SRogers@schools.nyc.gov and complete the online application by visiting our website.
NOTE: All applicants must possess New York State or reciprocal state certification to be eligible for consideration. Resumes will be reviewed and forwarded to Speech Supervisors in the various districts where needs exist.
Interested candidates may contact the Office of Operational Support Services, Scholarship, and Incentive Programs at (718) 935-2449 with any questions.
