Candidates interested in becoming a speech pathologist or a teacher of speech improvement in the NYC public schools must possess or have completed all requirements for the appropriate New York State certificate. Please note that without proper New York State certification, you cannot be considered for a position. Candidates from out-of-state may be considered provided that they fall within the guidelines for interstate reciprocity as defined on the NY State website. Details of New York State Certification Requirements in these various titles can be accessed by clicking here.
Application and Hiring Process
For full-time employment opportunities, all candidates are required to complete the NYCDOE online application. Instructions will be provided at the registration site. Candidates who are deemed eligible for these positions through the online pre-screening process will be placed on a list of available and preferred candidates for all principals and Supervisors of Speech to review. Interviews will be scheduled for these positions as vacancies occur.
Searching for Vacancies
You may search for full time vacancies in our schools by clicking on the Open Market link. Please follow directions on how to search vacancies at the top of the page. If you are interested in a position which may be available, please ensure that you have completed and submitted your application to our system. Once you see where the vacancies are, you may reach out directly to schools but it is important to note that because of an overwhelming applicant response, not all schools will contact you.
Part time Positions
There are many positions in our schools which are part time, itinerant or fractional positions. If you are interested in working ONLY part time, then you may submit a resume to parttimespeech@schools.nyc.gov. Please only use this mail box if you are interested in part time work. Full time applicants must apply through the regular application process.
