Partnering for Teacher Excellence: A NYCDOE Forum with Schools of Education

On January 31, the NYC DOE hosted Partnering for Teacher Excellence: A New York City Department of Education Forum with Schools of Education. This event included deans, professors, and key staff members from over 50 local Schools of Education. Many participants requested copies of Forum presentations. Please see below to access them.

Financial Incentives

Our incentive programs attract hundreds of teachers to our high-need schools. These programs include Teachers of Tomorrow, the Housing Support Program, scholarships for high-need subject areas, and our school-wide performance bonus program.

TeachNYC Select Recruits

TeachNYC Select Recruits is a recruitment program for outstanding applicants who strongly demonstrate commitment to eliminating the persistent achievement gap that affects so many of New York City’s students. TeachNYC Select Recruits receive a higher level of support with their job search compared to other applicants, including access to a recruiter and automatic invites to any recruitment events that the Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality may host.

Middle School Spring Classroom Apprenticeship

The Middle School Spring Classroom Apprenticeship (MS-SCA) is specifically designed for college and university students and recent graduates with a passion for making a positive impact in New York City’s public middle schools. In addition to 10 weeks of classroom immersion with a rigorously selected Cooperating Teacher, apprentices will also attend weekly supplemental workshops in which they will learn specific strategies to be effective in a high-needs middle school. Pending satisfactory completion of the program, participants will also be admitted as members of TeachNYC Select Recruits and will be given early consideration to positions in their host school for the 2013 – 2014 school year as opportunities arise.
