Prior to graduation, you should have applied through your college/university for the Employment Authorization under Optional Practical Training (OPT).  This document provides employment eligibility for one year.  In order to be employed in the NYC schools or to continue your employment after your OPT expires, it will be necessary to begin the transfer visa sponsorship process.  This change of status must be filed at least six months prior to the expiration of the OPT.  If you are currently in this situation, please call (718) 935-5854.  Please note that visa sponsorship will only be awarded to full-time teachers.
