Housing and Relocation

Getting around New York City is easy and inexpensive.  Public transportation, biking, walking, and taxi cabs are just a sampling of the frequently used transportation options.

Bus and Subway service within NYC
The public bus and subway system runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and extends throughout the five boroughs.  One trip costs $2, regardless of time or distance traveled.  An unlimited ride monthly card is $81 and allows unlimited usage of both the subway and bus lines for 30 days.  (specific route maps available at http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/index/html)

Bus and Train service outside NYC
In addition to the public transportation options within the city, there are also convenient bus and train options for traveling outside of the New York City area.  Port Authority, New York Penn Station, and Grand Central Station are three of the primary bus and train terminals in Manhattan.  They are hubs for:

Taxis and Private Car Services
New York City taxicabs are easily recognized by their bright yellow exterior.  In Manhattan, taxis are plentiful and can be hailed directly on the street or at taxi stands 24 hours a day.

  • NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission
  • While yellow taxicabs can be found outside of Manhattan, private car and limousine services are frequently used in lieu of taxicabs.  Prices vary, but are often comparable to yellow taxicab fares.
