I Teach NYC

A Message from Chancellor Dennis M. Walcott

Throughout my career I have had mentors and peers who have inspired me to grow and develop and who have served as role models for me. Certainly there are colleagues in your school who have done the same for you - those educators who go and above and beyond for their students, their peers, and their community. I encourage you to recognize your colleagues who inspire you by nominating them for the second annual citywide Big Apple Awards: Recognizing Teacher Excellence in New York City.

Every member of your school community - including your students and families, your colleagues and administrators - can submit a nomination. Nominees should be current, full-time teachers who have demonstrated exceptional success in impacting student learning, in their instructional practice, and in their professional contributions to their school communities.

Ten award recipients will receive a classroom grant next June in recognition of outstanding teaching. Like last year's recipients, these educators will have opportunities to meet with senior DOE leadership and collaborate with other award recipients during the 2014-15 school year. Nominations will be accepted through January 17.

Thank you for all of your hard work and for your dedication to our shared belief that what matters most in our work as educators is the success of the students entrusted to our care.
