I Teach NYC
Throughout my career I have had mentors and peers who have inspired me to grow and develop and who have served as role models for me. Certainly there are colleagues in your school who have done the same for you-those educators who go and above and beyond for their students, their peers, and their community. I encourage you to recognize your colleagues who inspire you by nominating them for the second annual citywide Big Apple Awards: Recognizing Teacher Excellence in New York City.
As we experience the first year of Advance, some administrators and teachers have understandably asked questions about the feedback process, the eventual ratings, and what they will mean for schools and teachers. Last week, some additional guidance was provided to principals to address some questions about how Advance should be used to support teachers' development and growth.
Thousands of educators across the city have shared their experiences and questions during school visits, professional development, and feedback sessions, across the city. The two most frequently asked questions have been:1) What support and training are my administrators being given to help them use Advance to evaluate teachers’ practice and support my development? and 2) I need more information about Advance and the Danielson 2013 Framework for Teaching. What training is available for teachers?
