Great teachers change lives. They unlock their students' potential and put them on paths to success. This year, the New York City Department of Education will recognize the great work of some of our best and brightest teachers with the first annual Big Apple Awards.
Over 75,000 teachers are making a difference in the lives of New York City's 1 million students. Based on nominations from parents, colleagues, principals, students, and members of the public, up to 11 outstanding NYC teachers will be recognized and awarded a classroom grant this June. |
How does it work?
- The nomination period for the 2013 Big Apple Awards is now closed.
- All nominees will be notified by email about the honor of being nominated for the first annual Big Apple Awards.
- After initial review, a select group of nominees will be invited to complete a more comprehensive application.
- Finalists will be interviewed and visited in their classrooms.
- Up to 11 awardees will be announced and honored at a celebration in June; the 11 awardees will spend the next school year, in addition to teaching, serving as ambassadors and advisors for the DOE.
