Admissions Information for Parents
As of the 2015-2016 school year, 19 charter schools across New York City will offer Pre-K for All programs. Admission to charter school pre-k programs is currently done through a random lottery.
The deadline to apply to the charter school admission lottery is April 1 of each year. However, applications for most schools are accepted year round. Applications submitted after April 1 will go on a waitlist as per each individual school’s enrollment policy. You should contact the individual charter school for more information on how to apply. As per NYS Education Law § 3602 (ee), New York City Charter Schools are eligible to apply for, and operate, Pre-K for All programs. Charter schools can apply to become a pre-k operator through the NYCDOE’s new Pre-K for All RFP process. Charter schools that are granted authority to operate pre-k programs are required to follow the same legal and regulatory requirements as other public schools with some exceptions.
