School districts around the country, in an aim to reduce waste and increase environmental awareness, are piloting programs that would use compostable materials for school lunch trays. To learn more click here.
The Office of Sustainability, in conjunction with the Division of School Facilities, Schools Construction Authority, and the NYC Department of Environmental Protection Office of Green Infrastructure, offer guidance to schools that wish to pursue a green roof on their building.

Over 600 students from all 5 boroughs and all grade levels participated in the annual energy efficiency art contest. The art work was used to create the NYC DOE Energy Efficiency 2013-2014 and can be downloaded here.
