Mentoring Excellence

Ramon and Tyneka

Our mentoring relationship works because it arose out of a shared philosophy and mutual
professional respect. We bounce ideas back and forth, argue, debate and evaluate various
perspectives in trying to make the best decisions for our students.  Ramon’s passion and
dedication to his students is inspirational and evident in all of his decision-making. There is
an honesty that forms the basis of our mentoring relationship, and we push each other’s
thinking. The idea of going through the new schools process as part of the Mentoring
Excellence program was of particular interest to me because I knew I would have the
continued support of not only the principal of a successful middle school but also the staff
with whom I had worked over the past six years, who could serve in mentoring
relationships with the new staff that I would develop.
