Proposed Closure: Enrollment Information for Families

If the proposal to close New Day Academy (“New Day”) is approved, New Day would close in June 2013. All currently enrolled students would remain at the school until the end of the 2012-13 school year. All currently enrolled students would remain at the school until the end of the 2012-13 school year. Twelfth-grade students will have the opportunity to graduate from New Day. Students who do not graduate in June 2013 will be offered a placement at another high school.
Options for Current Students
§ Twelfth-grade students who meet promotional standards at the end of the school year will graduate in June.
§ Twelfth-grade students who are not on track to graduate should meet with an enrollment counselor to discuss options and receive a new high school assignment for September.
§ Students who are not on track to graduate should also consider applying to a Transfer High School. For information about Transfer High Schools, speak with your guidance counselor or visit www.goingforme.org.
9th, 10th, and 11th Grade
§ Ninth-, tenth- and eleventh-grade students will attend a different high school in September.
§ Students will have an opportunity to apply to attend another high school.
§ The Office of Student Enrollment will distribute applications in the spring.
§ Students will receive their placement offers in June.
- Eighth-grade students who meet promotional requirements should attend the school to which they were matched in the High School Admissions Process.
- Students who are held over and can no longer attend the school to which they matched through High School Admissions Process should meet with an enrollment counselor to discuss options and receive a new middle school assignment for September.
Earning Credits & Graduation
What happens if I do not earn enough credits to move to the next grade level at the end of this school year?
§ If you do not earn enough credits to go to the next grade level at the end of this school year, you will remain in the same grade, but at your new school.
When I enroll in a different high school, will the new school accept my credits, class grades, and documented community service hours?
§ Yes, your transcript follows you to your new school. Your transcript is a permanent record of your accomplishments.
When I enroll in a different high school in September, which school will issue my diploma?
§ The new school that you attend in September will issue your diploma once you have earned the required number of credits and passed the required Regents exams.
High School Athletics
If I am currently participating in a PSAL sport and I enroll in another school, do I keep my PSAL eligibility?
§ Yes, you will keep your eligibility. However, you will have to try out for the team in your new school and meet additional school-based requirements for the sport.
