PROPOSED AND APPROVED: Zone Changes for of P.S. 08, P.S. 20, P.S. 46, P.S. 54, P.S. 56, and P.S./M.S. 280 in District 10 in Effect for 2014-15 School Year

Proposal Information

 

On October 21, 2013, Community Education Council 10 voted to change the current zones for P.S. 08, P.S. 20, P.S. 46, P.S. 54, P.S. 56, and P.S./M.S. 280 in District 10, and to create a zone for new building X177. 


The approved zone changes for the 2014-2015 school year may be found in the map provided below.    

Why did the CEC approve this zone change?

·          To create a zone for and to account for the new capacity of building X177, slated to open in 2014

·          To account for the new capacity of building X056, slated to be complete in 2016

·          To alleviate overcrowding in District 10



What changes should families expect as a result of this re-zoning?

·          Some residents previously zoned for P.S. 20 will now be zoned for New School in X177

·          Some residents previously zoned for P.S. 56 will now be zoned for New School in X177

·          Some residents previously zoned for P.S./M.S. 280 will now be zoned for New School in X177

·          Some residents previously zoned for PS 08 will now be zoned for P.S./M.S. 280 and P.S. 20

·          Some residents previously zoned for P.S. 46 will now be zoned for P.S. 08, P.S. 20, and P.S. 54

·          Some residents previously zoned for P.S. 54 will now be zoned for P.S. 20

·          Some residents that previously did not have a zone school will now be zoned for P.S. 54.



What will this mean for my family?

·         The proposed changes would impact only incoming kindergarten students or students that are new to the system in 2014-2015. All currently enrolled students may remain in their school. Children whose verified siblings are enrolled in a school impacted by a re-zoning plan adopted by the CEC will maintain zoned sibling priority to that impacted school. Kindergarten students would be admitted in the following order of priority:

  1. Zoned students whose verified siblings are pre-registered or enrolled at the time of application submission and will be enrolled in grades K-5 in the school at the start of the following school year
  2. Zoned students other than those in (1) above applying to the zoned school
  3. Students whose verified siblings are pre-registered or enrolled at the time of application submission and will be enrolled in grades K-5 in the school at the start of the following school year who are not zoned to the 

    a.     Within District first, then

    b.     Out of District

  1. Students currently attending the school’s pre-kindergarten program who reside outside the school’s zone without a sibling who will be in grades K-5 at the school in the following school year,

    a.     Within District first, then

    b.     Out of District

  1. Students other than those in (3a) and (4a) above who are residents of that district
  2. Students other than those in (3b) and (4b) who are residents of another district
