Under § 2857, Article 56 of the Charter School Act of 1998, the charter entity must provide notification at each significant stage of the chartering process. In order to gather input about charter schools in the community, the DOE facilitates the following types of public hearings:

  • New Charter Applicants
  • Charter Revisions
  • Charter Renewals
  • Facilities Sitings

All hearings are open to the public.

November 4, 2009: Charter Renewal - Excellence Charter School of Bedford-Stuyvesant, District 16
November 10, 2009: Charter Revision - Believe Northside and Believe Southside Charter Schools, District 14 Cancelled
November 16, 2009: Charter Renewal - Bronx Charter School for the Arts, District 8
November 18, 2009: Charter Renewal - KIPP Academy, District 7
November 20, 2009: Charter Renewal - New York Center for Autism Charter School, District 4
