ESI Strategies in Action
The ESI Summer Bridge Program was an opportunity foracademic enrichment and acceleration for incoming freshmen to get a sense ofthe rigor and standards that are expected of them in high school. Researchshows that low graduation rates are driven by students who are not prepared forhigh school and have trouble transitioning to ninth grade. In addition toacademic support, Summer Bridge focused on academic and personal skills thatare essential to promoting a college-going and career readiness mindset.
In the 2013-2014 school year, ESI schools will focus on beginning or deepening a conversation about increasing college and career readiness among Black and Latino young men through more culturally relevant educational (CRE) practices. Watch this video to learn more about CRE providers.
This report describes college-related outcomes and other indicators that help predict college readiness for Black and Latino male students over time, and discusses key contextual factors that underlie these educational outcomes.
