The NYC Middle School Film Festival 2010, a component of the DOE’s Campaign for Middle School Success is an exciting initiative to give 7th and 8th grade students city-wide the opportunity to:
- Write a film story about their lives based on the theme, "Where I'm From..."
- Win a scholarship to a two week Film Production Camp this summer with the New York Film Academy where students will make their own film
- And have their short films screened in the Fall at the NYC Middle School Film Festival 2010 event
The theme of this year's festival is, “Where I’m From…”. This theme asks students to begin thinking about the places, cultures, and things that have shaped their life. It should demonstrate what they want their audience to ultimately see in their film. “Where I’m From…” could be a neighborhood; somewhere you feel closest to your true self; one’s ancestry, culture or heritage; where you were born or anything that has had a profound influence on your life. Students have the opportunity to use this influence to tell their story. You can find out more about this theme on the application.

About the Campaign for Middle School Success
The Middle School Film Festival is a component of the Department of Education's Campaign for Middle School Success. Launched in 2008 by the DOE, the Campaign for Middle School Success is a comprehensive, strategic, and citywide effort to improve student achievement, engagement, and development in New York City’s middle schools. It includes a range of strategic initiatives for supporting our system, our schools, and our students, so that all New York City middle schools will accelerate student learning, create a culture of success, engage students through rigorous and relevant instruction, support the development of the whole adolescent, and value parents, caregivers and families as partners. Our vision is that our middle schools will produce the leaders of the 21st century, preparing students to assume leadership of their communities and their future.
