The Office of Arts and Special Projects sponsored a workshop for Arts Education Liaisons to explore the alignment between the arts and the College and Career Readiness capacities of the Common Core Standards and Mathematical Practices and how resources of The Metropolitan Museum of Art supports this work.

Princpals, Assistant Principals and school programmers were invited to attend the second session of the Shubert Arts Leadership Institute held at the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, 2 East 91 st Street, New York, NY 10128. Dr. Lynn Canady lead principals and school programmers through an exploration of data-driven schedules that meet the learning needs of students.

THE SHUBERT ARTS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE Session 1
Event Date: January 21st
Through a generous grant from the Shubert Foundation, the NYCDOE Office of Arts and Special Projects is offering THE SHUBERT ARTS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE for school leaders interested in building quality arts programs at all levels. Session 1 is scheduled for January 21st at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and will focus on the arts as a core content area and the alignment with the College and Career Readiness Capacities of the Common Core Standards. All participants will receive an Arts Education Toolkit for School Leaders (at a reduced cost of $10)
Workshop for Arts Coding for HSST/STARS
Event Date/Time: January 13 from 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm
The Office of Arts and Special Projects will sponsor a workshop for middle and high school assistant principals and programmers on arts coding for HSST and STARS presented by Mike Beiner, Director of HSST/STARS. In addition, compliance issues will be addressed as well as an opportunity to explore developing arts sequences at your school with staff from OASP. January 13 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm The Museum of Modern Art, Cullman Education Building, 4 West 54th Street.

'SCHEDULING FOR STUDENT SUCCESS"
Participants will engage in designing various types of data-driven schedules that work to support both interventions and enrichment for students. In these workshops, Dr. Canady will look at elementary and middle school schedules that will include tutorials, enrichment and common planning time for teachers. At all levels Dr. Canady will explore the ideal application of scheduling strategies that lead to improved student outcomes and adaptations that can be made to address local issues and concerns to maximize arts learning for students...please bring a copy of your school master schedule with you.
Workshop to Support Arts Education Liaisons
Tools to Improve Arts Education Instruction: Annual Arts in Schools Report 2008-2009 and the Arts Education Reflection Tool
The Office of Arts and Special Projects will sponsor a workshop for Arts Education Liaisons to assist schools in reviewing their Annual Arts in Schools Report 2008-2009 and introduce participants to the new Arts Education Reflection Tool. This workshop focused on utilizing these arts education tools to improve instruction.

Annual Arts Education Survey 2009-2010: Technical Assistance Workshops / All Schools

Principals and/or their designees were invited to attend ONE of five technical assistance workshops in preparation of the Annual Arts Education Survey 2009-2010. The Survey was received by all school leaders on, or about, April 12th and must be submitted online no later than May 7th. The Survey provides baseline data regarding each school’s arts instruction and the results are published on the school website as part of the Annual Arts in Schools Report. These workshops provided guidance in completing the survey and creating strategies to meet the NYS Education Department arts instructional requirements in visual art, dance, music and, theater as outlined in ArtsCount .
