2017-2018 Arts and Social Studies: Collaborative Teaching for Enhanced Student Learning
How can teachers use cross discipline co-planning to help students recognize connections between visual arts/music and social studies, deepen their work in each discipline and enrich learning?
Teacher teams comprised of either one Visual Arts or Music teacher and one Social Studies teacher OR two classroom Social Studies teachers are invited to engage in collaborative planning around this question.
Teams will create a plan to be implemented in the 2017-2018 school year. During the session, teacher teams will:
- Co-plan instruction that supports the common core capacities of the literate individual and Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts
- Collaborate on planning and connect thematically to a grade-appropriate theme in Social Studies Scope & Sequence
- Build interdisciplinary connections through masterworks of art/music used as a lens for both art/music making and as primary source documents
- Have access to the unique resources offered by each partner cultural institution
