The students applied their design criteria to their various ideas. They tried each possibility and discarded those design ideas that were too time consuming or too difficult to make, or those which they doubted would be durable.

The students ultimately decided on the pillowcase because they judged that it satisfied their design criteria, especially their criteria related to ease and speed of making.

The students did some product testing on their design to make sure it was durable.

b Learning and Self-management Tools and Techniques: The student keeps records of work activities in an orderly manner; that is, the student:

sets up a system for storing records of work activities;
maintains records of work activities in a way that makes it possible to find specific materials quickly and easily.

The students maintained records of their project activities by means of a journal and by annotating their design ideas.

a Problem Solving: The student designs and creates a product, service, or system to meet an identified need; that is, the student:

develops ideas for the design of the product, service, or system;
chooses among the design ideas and justifies the choice;
establishes criteria for judging the success of the design;
uses an appropriate format to represent the design;
plans and carries out the steps needed to turn the design into a reality;
evaluates the design in terms of the criteria established for success.

The students decided to hold an assembly to explain the problem and their plan for solving it.
