Mrs. Dubowski, Fifth Grade Teacher, PS 95 Jamaica Queens

Mrs. Dubowski didn't give up on me, even when I was a quiet cry baby and too shy for words. I never used to raise my hand during math because I wasn't confident. She helped me build my confidence by helping me learn my times tables (which is what they called multiplication tables back then). I was like the teachers pet. Mrs. Dubowski was one of my favorite teachers. I tell my children about her every time I want them to feel inspired that one person can actually make a difference in your life and change your whole outlook. She used to defend me and help me academically not with just math but all subjects. Everyone loved her and wanted to be in her class. That's how special she was. Not because she was cool, it's because she took a special interest in every student and made you feel that you can do it, and I did. Not that I was a bad student, I'd say better than average. But sometimes you need that extra push from someone other than a family member. Special teachers should be acknowledged.
