About Us

We like to call ourselves the Efficacy/
Core Knowledge Plus School. This name
reflects the philosophical foundation,
which guides many of the educational
initiatives, which have been instituted
to raise the standards for our students
and hold staff accountable for the
teaching/learning process. As an
Efficacy school, we use available
resources efficiently and seek additional
support to enhance our curriculum
initiatives and maximize our efforts.

P.S. 138 has three full-day pre-
kindergarten classes programs and five
full-day kindergarten classes, which
operate from 8:30 a.m. through 3:00 p.m.
Grades one through eight attend classes
from 8:40 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.

Our middle school also boasts about its
Regents math and biology programs.
Students completing the rigorous math and
biology programs enter high school with
credit for two regents.

P.S. 138 has many exciting programs to
meet the needs of the students seeking
challenging curriculum. In addition to
our art program in which students are
taught sketching and drawing under the
guidance of our own resident artist-
teacher, we also have vocal and
instrument music programs. Students are
receiving training in voice and
instrumental from accomplished musicians
who serve on our staff.

Corporate America has provided support to
our school. They had sponsored a school
visit by world repute storyteller Jackie
Torrence who dazzled the students and
parents with her magical tales and
engaging personality. We have also been
the beneficiary of literature to support
the curriculum and received tickets for
students to attend Broadway plays. This
is another example of efficacy in action.

We also provide several afterschool
programs to address remedial needs of the
students. There is a Project Read
Extended Day Program servicing grades one
through four. In addition there is the
Extended Day Afterschool Program which
services students in grades four through
eight. This program utilizes a strong
literature approach to literacy
development.
