THE NEW YORK CITY BOARD OF EDUCATION
THE CROWN SCHOOL - P.S. #161
What Is New

The Crown School for Law and Journalism is
divided into houses in the same manner as the
school in the Harry Potter books. Teachers are
Headmasters and students are Prefects. The
houses are identifies by mascots and colors and
banners that the children designed and made
themselves. Students compete in academic areas,
sports challenges, and community service for
points. The most successful house at the end of
the school year will receive awards and special
recognition. It is a challenging learning and
fun experience.
Every Thursday, from 3:00 to 4:00 P.M.,
sixth graders are meeting with Mrs. Barrett in
the Principal’s Math Program where the students
are integrating reading and math skills.
