THE NEW YORK CITY BOARD OF EDUCATION
ELIJAH G. STROUD
What

We now have a Photojournalism class
here at P.S. 316. Mr. Terrance Carney
is
the director of this program. Mr.
Carney
comes to us with an extensive
background
in journalism. In this program the
children conduct interviews, research
projects, create their own writings and
take pictures with digital cameras.

     The children have already
published
one edition of the school newspaper and
two more are expected during the year.
In
addition, a school magazine will be
published by the children under the
direction of Mr. Carney.

The children can be seen roving
around the school hunting down subjects
and scenes that catch their eye.Their
pictures are in display in room 203 as
well as on bulletin boards and as
screen
savers on the computers.

We now have seven classrooms that
each have four new Imac computers and a
printer. This is due to the efforts of
our City Council and Congressman Major
Owens. The computers came loaded with
software and are ready for the Internet
when the whole school will be wired for
Internet access. Mr Russeel’s room is
already hooked up to the Internet and
the
children have been surfing the net for
information.

     Mr. Louis Perego and Skyline
Communities have returned to the school
for another exciting video project.
After
our video under Mr. Perego’s direction
won awards and aired on HBO Family
Channel we were very excited to invite
Mr. Perego back for a return visit. He
just finished filming the new video
which
is set in the future. We anxiously
await
the final project.
