Disability, Discipline, and Intervention: Students’ and Families’ Rights Through the Discipline Process and Accessible Tools to Support Student Achievement

Tuesday, April 14, 2026

7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

This webinar is designed to support families in understanding their rights when a student with a disability is involved in the discipline process and to highlight accessible tools that help remove learning barriers and support student success.

What we will talk about:

  • Manifestation Determination Reviews (MDRs): Manifestation Determination Reviews are a required step in the discipline process for students with disabilities after a student has been suspended for a certain number of days. We will explain how the MDR process works and how families can participate.

  • Read&Write Educational Technology Tool: Oftentimes, students have challenging behavior because there are barriers to their learning. Read&Write is an educational technology tool that helps reduce those barriers by supporting reading, writing, and comprehension skills. Families will learn how students can access Read&Write at home and use it to strengthen learning, and build strong, independent study skills.

From Planning to Action: Preparing Students, Empowering Families, and Understanding Your Rights

Tuesday, April 28, 2026

7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

This webinar is part of the Transition series, the first webinar in the series was the March 10th session.

What we will talk about:

  • A transition roadmap by age. Transition planning should start early and looks different from age 12 through 22. We'll break down key milestones, deadlines, and the questions you should be asking at each stage to make sure planning stays on track.
  • Self-Advocacy. A key to successful transition planning is involvement from the student and family. Students who understand their disability, know their IEP, and can ask for what they need are better prepared for life after high school. We'll share practical ways to help your student express their preferences, participate in transition planning, and build self-advocacy skills over time.
  • Your rights and how to use them. Families and students have the right to be part of the transition planning process, and understanding your legal rights helps safeguard the process. We'll explain the legal protections that apply to transition planning, how to advocate effectively, and where to go for support.
