Michelle Joseph is a Social Responsibility Strategy Consultant. A proud native of Trinidad & Tobago, Michelle’s love of learning & culture led her to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in African American Studies & Secondary Social Studies at SUNY Cortland. At 20, Michelle began her teaching career. In her 1st 10yrs, Michelle had an opportunity to teach both at the middle & high school levels, established a public policy debate team, focused on highly at risk students & worked after hours teaching GED & adult learners. In her quest to deliver personalized, differentiated, relevant instruction, Michelle sought out impactful edtech solutions, relevant curriculum & applied innovative school design best practices. This motivated Michelle to attain a Masters in Educational Leadership.
Michelle has served as Asst. Principal, Principal, School design lead & a Central NYC Dept. of Ed. Admin. In her last role with NYC DOE, her responsibilities involved sourcing, partnering, testing and validating edtech solutions for NYC 1 mil. public schools students. Michelle left the public sector after the birth of her son.
In 2013 Michelle joined the Verizon Foundation Team, where over 9 years she designed, managed, supported Verizon’s portfolio of social responsibility initiatives, i.e. VILS, IDT, Verizon 5G EDtech Challenge & Adfellows to just name a few. Michelle also played a pivotal role in development & roll out of Verizon’s Corporate Social responsibility plan. In her role, she impacted over 1 million students nationally. In 2022, post covid, Michelle shifted gears and became an independent social responsibility consultant, providing: responsible visioning, efficient & sustainable execution with a laser focus on economic & social outcomes to non-profits & MWBE. One of her first clients, Victory Music & Dance’s CEO heralded Michelle a “Godsend”.
Michelle is an avid basketball fan, music lover & local tourist. She plans to spend most of her spare time serving as a 2023 Mayoral Appointee to the Panel on Educational Policy. With the time left she plans to enjoy it with her 7th grader, an Eagle Academy for Young Men at Oceanhill middle scholar and attending basketball games, of which her son, Shawn is a player.
